Overview

The Public Directory is available at /directory and does not require a login to search. It allows anyone (potential clients, attorneys, insurance adjusters) to find and contact investigation agencies.

This is separate from the Partner Network, which requires authentication and is designed for agency-to-agency collaboration. The Public Directory is your public-facing presence for client acquisition.

What Visitors See

Each listed agency's public profile displays the following information:

  • Agency name and location
  • Specialties and areas of practice
  • Years in business
  • Licensed states
  • Contact information
  • Agency bio or description

Visitors can filter the directory by state and specialty, or use the text search to find agencies by name, city, or bio. Each agency has its own profile page at a clean, slug-based URL (for example, /directory/acme-investigations), which is indexed by search engines for organic discovery.

Agencies can purchase sponsor tiers for enhanced visibility in search results. Sponsor agencies appear before standard listings and display a colored badge on their profile card.

BronzeBronzeAfter Silver sponsors
StandardNoneAlphabetical after all sponsors

Sponsor tiers have an expiration date. When a tier expires, the agency reverts to standard placement automatically.

Managing Your Profile

Organization owners and admins can manage the public directory listing from Admin > Directory Profile. This is where you control what information appears in the public directory, including your agency description, specialties, service areas, and contact details.

Profile Fields

  • Agency Name: Your organization's display name
  • Location: Primary business address (city and state)
  • Specialties: Areas of practice (surveillance, background checks, insurance investigation, etc.)
  • Service Areas: Geographic regions you serve
  • Licensed States: States where your agency holds valid PI licenses
  • Years in Business: How long your agency has operated
  • Contact Info: Phone, email, and website for potential clients
  • Bio: A description of your agency and services

Visibility Controls

You can choose whether to appear in the Public Directory independently from the Partner Network. Visibility settings for each directory are managed separately in your organization's admin settings.

Contact Info Settings

You can configure different contact information for the Public Directory and the Partner Network. This is useful if you want to show a marketing phone number to potential clients while displaying a direct line to partners.

Contact information uses a three-level inheritance system:

  1. Directory-specific override: a phone, email, or website set specifically for the Public Directory (or Partner Network). This takes the highest priority.
  2. Organization default: the general contact info set at the org level. Used when no directory-specific override exists.
  3. Hidden: if no value is set at either level, the field is not shown.

Each contact field also has a visibility toggle. Even if a phone number is configured, you can choose not to display it in one or both directories.

Plan Requirements

Plan Requirement

The Public Directory listing is available on the Solo, Team, Agency, and Enterprise plans. Organizations on the Viewer or Gumshoe plans will not appear in the public directory.

If you're on the Gumshoe plan and want to be listed in the public directory, consider upgrading to Solo or higher. See the Billing page for plan comparison details.
